Housing
Winda-Mara Aboriginal Corporation manages 30 housing properties for our local community members across Heywood, Portland and Hamilton, accommodating 65 Aboriginal people, with another 60 people on our housing waiting list. Our houses are located across three centres:
- Heywood 19 houses
- Portland 5 houses

The Housing sector is overseen by the Housing Sub-Committee and their hard work ensures the best possible outcomes for our tenants, the houses and for Winda-Mara. The Sub Committee meet monthly and current members are:
- Tyson Lovett-Murray - Housing Officer
- Michael Bell
- Candice Day
- Ros Pevitt
- Margaret Ferguson
-
Dianne Bell
- Sherree Alberts-Pevitt
Key aspects of the housing program are:
- Rental statements, collection and recording
- Coordination of trades people for maintenance
- Liaising with external housing bodies
- Liaising with internal bodies
- Interaction with tenants both current and previous
- Reporting to Sub Committee
- Reporting to Board of Directors
Recent activity includes the undertaking of the Victorian DHS Housing Accreditation program, the introduction of six (6) new two bedroom units in Heywood and a 2012 broad-reaching housing repair and maintenance program.
There is a waiting list for housing across our communities and we receive frequent enquiries as to housing availability.
Winda-Mara’s Housing program offers a great service to our community members and it is an important function that needs to be continually enhanced.
